Drug Uses for Allegra

Allegra is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and children 6 years of age and older. When testeed, symptoms treated effectively were sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy nose/palate/throat, itchy/watery/red eyes.

How Allegra is Taken

Allegra is formulated as a capsule or tablet for oral administration. Allegra is usually taken twice a day, in the morning and the evening. Make sure you follow your doctor's instructions. Take each dose with a full glass of good ol' fashioned water!

For even better results you may wish to talk to your doctor about taking allergy shots in addition to taking Allegra. You may find that getting an allergy shot periodically may be easier than taking Allegra daily.

Warnings/Precautions about Allegra

Do not take Allegra if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it. Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have any serious illness such as heart, kidney, or liver disease. You may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have other illnesses. Allegra is in the FDA pregnancy category C. Confused? What it means is that it is not known whether Allegra will harm an unborn baby. So why take a chance? Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant.

It is also not known whether Allegra passes into breast milk. Do not take Allegra without first talking to your doctor about the implications of combining Allegra and breast feeding.

Allegra is not approved for use by children younger than 6 years of age - especially if they are breast feeding.

Missed a Dose of Allegra

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. The sooned the better! If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

Possible Side Effects of Allegra & Allegra Warnings

Warning, stop taking Allegra and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives). Allergic reactions occur only rarely but they do occur!

Some less serious side effects of Allegra may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Allegra and talk to your doctor if you experience nausea or an upset stomach. Symptoms and signs of Allegra overdose are: dizziness, drowsiness, and dry mouth. Seek emergency medical attention if you've take more than the usual dosage.
